Puno is one of the highest cities in the country, located on the shore of Lake Titicaca in the southeast region of Peru, where the weather is predominantly cold and dry. Puno is the city that the Amautas lived in, the notoriously wise great Andean men of letters. For this reason, Puno is often referred to as the land of artists and poets. The impressive Lake Titicaca is the highest navigable lake in the world, where the “Uros Islands” are located. This group of artificial islands is made of large reeds that grow from the bottom of the lake and are inhabited by houses (matting) made of the same material.
